Mainframe Operator - Durham NC
Rate up to 38/hr ( all inclusive )
The experience required for the effort includes, but not limited to:
· Detailed knowledge of stateoftheart computer programming, especially extensive and current knowledge of teleprocessing monitors and available supporting vendor products.
· Broad knowledge of the organization, methods, and operating procedures of the computer processing operations at the Social Security Administration.
· Knowledge of COBOL and ASSEMBLER languages with specific emphasis on the use of teleprocessing monitors macros and/or macro generation facilities.
· Overall knowledge of operating systems, MVS/XA, software and utilities.
· Skill to actively participate in comprehensive studies and analyses of systems in order to identify deficiencies and to recommend and implement improvements.
· Knowledge of comprehensive study and analysis techniques in order to actively plan and execute both the gathering and analysis of data needed to participate in studies of systems to identify deficiencies and recommend and implement improvements.
· Knowledge of agency documentation procedures and standard data elements and codes.
· Skill to express complex ideas and products in both oral and written forms
Experience in the following skills are desired but not required and additional training will be supplied to the contractor to supplement this functionality
Operator
· Knowledge of computer systems operations on a large-scale computer system.
· Experience on the HDS GX and Skyline series mainframe systems.
· Knowledge of JES2/3 operator commands, scheduling packages, tape silo manipulation, Direct Access Storage Devices (DASD), Top Secret security interface, Integrated Database Management System (IDMS), Virtual Telecommunications Access Method (VTAM), Websphere, Customer Information and Control System (CICS), DB2, OPS/MVS and how they interact through display facility.
· Experience in starting, queuing, swapping, canceling, displaying and restarting jobs by using JES2/3 operator commands.
· Knowledge of computer operator commands to take full system dumps, start traces, perform IPLs, manipulate peripheral devices and reply to messages issued by any of the following: CICS, VTAM, DB2, IDMS, Websphere, Top Secret and OPS/MVS.
· Ability to identify and determine corrective action to be taken in the event of individual system failure, print facility problems and the backlog of messages displayed at the console. Knowledge of the use of MVS/ESA performance monitors such as OMEGAMON/MVS.
· Ability to express verbally, and in writing, the documentation of job delays/completions, system malfunctions and other operational problems and problem resolution.
